J9 is named in memory of Janine Mundy, a mother of two, killed by her estranged husband in June 2003 whilst on police bail. This awareness raising course will give you the skills to recognise abuse and the confidence to respond to survivors, opening the door to safety and support. At the end of the course you can display the J9 logo so survivors know they have a safe space to get help. Read more
As new technologies and social media platforms are created, they also begin to be used as a monitoring or harassment tool by abusers. This training will help you to understand how abusers use technology to perpetrate abuse, the risk this poses to survivors and how to effectively safety plan against these methods of abuse. By the end of the training session you will also be able to identify protective technologies and how to incorporate this into safety planning with survivors. Read more
It is a myth that the majority of stalkers are strangers lurking in alleys or celebrity obsessed fans - the vast majority of stalking is perpetrated by someone who knows the victim, mostly an ex-partner. This course will give you a understanding of stalking behaviours, perpetrator's typologies and motivation, the impact of stalking upon the victim and how to best support victims of stalking. You already know the basics, but would like a more in depth understanding. This course will refresh and build on your existing knowledge of domestic abuse and sexual violence and give you the confidence to manage your clients as effectively and lawfully as possible. The course aims to expand your knowledge on concepts like coercive control, different types of domestic abuse, perpetrator typologies and risk and safety planning. Read more
Safety and support planning is one of the most important things that we can do with survivors. This training session will give you an understanding of how to safety plan within a community response model, understand the roles of MARAC and MAPPA, and how to respond to a survivor in an emergency situation. By the end of the training session you will be confident in safety planning with survivors for a number of different scenarios. Read more
It can be difficult to know how to respond when an employee tells you that they are experiencing domestic or sexual abuse, but your response as an employer or HR professional is important, and knowing how to respond safely is vital. This course will help you develop your understanding of domestic abuse and give you the confidence to recognise and respond to a disclosure, becoming a vital source of support for your employees. Identifying risk correctly is absolutely vital in order to address risk and increase survivor safety. Anyone using the DASH RIC tool with survivors should be trained and accredited to use the DASH Risk model. This training will give you an understanding of the dynamics of abuse, stalking and so called 'honour based abuse' (HBA). You will be able to confidently identify high-risk cases and make defensible decisions to best support survivor safety. Read more
Domestic and sexual abuse happen in every community. This training session will give you an insight into the prevalence and distinct nature of abuse perpetrated against Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) survivors and the additional barriers they face to access support services. By the end of the training session you will be able to recognise signs of abuse and respond appropriately, supporting BAME survivors on their journey to safety and recovery. Read more
