Safer Places is an independent charity which provides a comprehensive range of services to adults and children affected by domestic and sexual abuse and family conflict who live in Essex and Hertfordshire. We are governed by a board of Trustees. The people who use our services are at the heart of our organisation and we aim to work to enable them to overcome the impact of their experience and to build a brighter and safe future for themselves and their children. 


This role is Part time 20 hours per week

Working Monday to Friday between the hours of 09:00 and 17:30

The role of the Housekeeper involves: 

Ensure that the properties to which you are allocated are maintained; cleaned and prepared to a high standard for new occupants and that a full inventory is completed for the client of the arrival. The role will also involve ensuring that on hand back, that all inventoried items are returned in good condition and issues reported the Rent Recovery and Facilities Officer.

  • Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and materials are stored safely and securely as per health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Adhering to the Visual Standards agreed by the organisation ensure that all repairs are reported through the Service Desk.
  • Clean all communal areas to a high standard ensuring that they are hazard free at all times.
  • Report all accidents, occurrences, near misses and RIDDOR incidents immediately to the designated person in line with the Safer Places health and safety policy and procedures.
  • Ensure that stocks of consumables, spares and other essentials are maintained at all times in appropriately secure cabinets and maintain COSHH sheets and records in accordance with the requirements of the Health and Safety Policy.
  • Ensure that all outside areas are kept clean and tidy at all times.
  • Maintain safe working practices at all times, carrying out dynamic risk assessments on a continual basis and ensuring that appropriate PPE is worn depending on the task being undertaken
  • Constant vigilance is required to ensure the safety of children and vulnerable adults in our service.
  • Deliver a flexible work ethos and contribute to the outcomes of the wider Team ensuring that our clients are supported and that the facilities they use are hygienic and clean at all times.

This is a permanent – part time position, which requires the candidate to have:

  • Previous experience in a cleaning role delivering high standards.
  • Experience of cleaning in a supported accommodation facilities
  • Experience of working in a Team
  • High standards of Customer care

Be able to form good working relationships with residents whilst working within professional boundaries.

  • Subject to Enhanced DBS Check

Car driver and use of a car

Upon receiving an offer:

  • All staff must complete a DBS disclosure due to the nature of our services. You will also be required to bring proof of ID.
  • We are legally bound to check the eligibility of all candidates to work in the U.K. We therefore must have proof of your NI number (either the NI card or a recent wage slip.)
  • As you will be driving in the course of your duties we are also bound by law to make sure your vehicle is safe and road worthy. We must see your driving licence, Insurance and MOT before you start work. Also needs to be insured for Business use.
  • We will two satisfactory references, one of which should be from your most recent/current employer. Please let us know if we can request the references in advance.
